Visual appeal for an ebook cover is massive. Unless you’re a fan of an author, new authors have to nail the impact of their small inch by millimetres image or risk readers overlooking them without a second look.
Could I have made that opening paragraph any harsher?
Truth be told – if you go looking for advice on covers, you’ll read a pattern of advice about fonts, colours, content, and what may look good on a 27” Mac Screen may look like a trampled omelet when viewed as a thumbnail. If I’m going to crack to the ebook market, then I need to start sourcing designers to add appeal and clarity. Sure – I could do it on my own, or maybe play safe and see how an expert handles my inner thoughts.
One designer who seems to be nailing those images is: Damonza http://damonza.com/
Make no mistake the price-tag for work by them is high, but there is unadulterated quality about the style and presence those covers make in miniature form.
If you’re an ebook cover designer, please tell us about your experience, covers done and a link to your site/portfolio – with general prices.
And if you’ve used someone that you’d like to recommend, please add too!
In fact – if you did a cover yourself – tell us about it.
I’ll do a follow-up post to showcase some that caught my eye.

I quite like the cover @DionneLister had designed for her YA fantasy, which you can see here

Agreed. That cover invokes mystery and suspicion.
Does the man hod the sword out of respect or defence?
Is the panther/creature friend, foe, or some wise side kick offering warmth on cold nights?
And what about the dragon…
The cover gives away the fantasy genre/setting and allows the onlooker to gian an idea that the novel will involve swordplay and dragons… thus not misleading the reader with an image of the panther alone.
And the endorsed image just adds to the ‘Pick Me’ enticement
My designer is streetlightgraphics. I like them a lot. They aren’t the cheapest, but they are the nicest and the best.
A definite wide range available

The cover for Gunshot Glitter was created by an amazing US artist called Celene Petrulak. I hand picked her a long time ago as I loved her paintings and knew she’d make Celine Silver come to life the way I saw her. This is her site:http://celene.carbonmade.com/
And you can view the GG cover here at the top of this post:

And on Twitter I’ve spotted Jan Marshall who is a cover designer industry professional and also a writer. You can see her work here:

Good luck with finding your shoe that fits!
I’ll admit that it’s not the Sci Fi look I’ll be going for, but a definite great pair of sites for others to look at.
Always good to see independent artists make their name out there.
