As you know, or then again, do not know, I am plugging away with Edirevising my two novels. The first one, The Last Strider is chugging along nicely and the completion date of Oct 15 appears achievable.
It is startling when you re-read chapter that you thought were amazing, and find they are perplexed with issues such;
- Run-on sentences
- Diluted Impact sentences
- Poor/Wordy Dialogue
- Conflicting and often Confusing narrative
…The solution is simple… change, hack and re-invent.
As soon as The Last Strider is completed, I will be jumping into another intense 5 weeks of Edirevising my second novel, Disconnect. Why do I do this to myself? Because I care about my writing.
October and November are tight months for me, but I plan to do more than just editing the above novels. Other items on the agenda include;
- Attending ‘Getitng Published’ Event in London October 15th
- Get Together with the Nomad Novelist Writing Group in Oxford October 29th
- Start a Weekly Series on my Blog… about something related to Fantasy…
- Create Syynopsis for The Last Strider.
- Create Synopsis for Book 2 + 3 of The Last Strider. Good to be prepared.
- Start a Page relating to Grammar
- Continue Tweeting and Blogging the way that I do.
So for those that thought their novel was complete, but are now going back to revise… keep at it… never give up.
Live Long
My deadline is October 13th. I think I’m going to scrape in. Then I have some commitments to people who have asked for reviews, I want to finish Dragon Bait after all the feedback I’ve been given, and another short story which needs significant revisions. Then I might take a month off to read.
I’m not going to go to my Infinitas Crit group meeting in October because it’s two days after the Oct 13th deadline and I doubt I’ll have anything coherent or meaningful to say, so I might aim to go to the November one. This probably means I should try and write something for it. I have some workshops scheduled end of November that I enrolled in earlier in the year. December (or maybe January) I should start the sequel to Deathhawk’s Betrayal (working title, Deathhawk’s Redemption). I already have an outline. There will probably be more workshops I want to do by then. Oh yes, and the competition results will have been announced.
And of course I will be tweeting and blogging (on two blogs now!) as per usual.
I think we are as busy as each other. We both squeeze full-time jobs in around all that somewhere right?
I must start looking to see what conventions/events are held in Australia that I can go to. I missed Conflux. Would be nice to have someone to go to them with as well.
